Ernest, Max / George Antheil / 1984

This unusual set of visionary etudes, inspired by La Femme 100 Tetes, a book of collaged etchings assembled by the surrealist painter Max Ernst from their original sources in volumes of 19th Century picture storybook, and each given subtitles with hauntigly suggestive overtones, typifies Antheil's music during what the composer himself referred to as earlier "mechanistic" period(1922-1925)...

Cover: two-color print of an etching by Max Ernest from the folder La Femme 100 Tetes. 30 cm, 33 RPM, 1984, CRI SD 502. Perf: David Albee(p).
